For my final University project, I created a small hero asset used in my team's game. This asset will be one of ten objects that is hidden, which the player must search for and steal.
Our team's concept artist, Sophie Stamp, created some Grimoire sketch designs. I found more references online to help with the modelling process. I tried to keep the style of the model in line with the other assets in the environment, so it wouldn't stand out too much for gameplay reasons.
It was modelled in Maya, and I used curves to create the patterns on top of the book, before converting to polygons, bevelling and tweaking small areas. In Substance Painter, the pattern was baked and textured onto the asset, before I set up the scene in Unreal Engine for rendering. The final model was 4k tris.
